The Princess of Wales's Annual Festive Carol Concert Spotlights Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a selection of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Love and Generosity

The focus of the service, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a letter ahead of the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own measured re-emergence to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians supported by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to widen access to music lessons.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the charity, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be playing at tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.

Generations Gathering

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for local food charities.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Taking to the stage will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
