PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

However, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the dying moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
