Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in influence within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and presented the first table of characters who will separate from the main group to begin their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group includes Teor (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise started the story’s plot—used the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The traitor then paid off his debts and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the party reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Seekers and Strategists parties.

Viewers can expect discovering which adventurers will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
